The EOS 80D boasts a viewfinder coverage of approx. 100%. The newly-developed 45-point, all cross-type AF sensor and a continuous shooting speed of up to 7.0fps makes it an excellent choice for capturing moving subjects. Movie shooting at a quality of up to Full HD 60p is also supported, and Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which makes it possible to achieve high-speed AF during Live View shooting, has been enhanced to be compatible for use with all EF lenses. The AF sensor covers a large portion of the viewfinder and consists of 45 selectable points, all of which are cross-type. It enables precise AF tracking, even during 7.0fps high speed continuous shooting. 27 of the points can be used to focus with f/8, which means carrying out AF will be a pleasant experience even when using an extender.
Full HD 60p/50p movie shooting is available, and you can film not only Time-lapse movies, but also HDR movies. In other words, you can capture beautiful scenes even in strong backlight conditions with high brightness contrast. There is also a digital zoom feature as well as new Creative filters for movie shooting. Record in MP4 and MOV file formats with a variety of frame rates and codecs.

Pros -
- Higher resolution compared to predecessor, now more in line with competition
- Fine Detail Picture Style improves JPEG rendering
- Very good hue accuracy
- Very fast autofocus speeds
- Built-in flash can act as commander to remote slave flashes
- Headphone jack as well as a external microphone input
Cons -
- Moderately high to high chromatic aberration and distortion from kit lens in uncorrected RAW files
- Dynamic range and high ISO performance are improved, but still lags the best of competition
- Images are a little soft compared to cameras without an AA filter even with a sharp lens
- Full low-light AF spec only attained with a high-contrast subject
- No 4K video
- 1080/60p video not available with higher quality ALL-I format
